I know I say it a lot but I absolutely loved this book. I have been thinking about these reviews and it's probably more of a recommendation list rather than a review. I read an awful lot but I probably won't be sharing books I didn't like. I would much rather use this positively so I am describing these book reviews now as recommendations.
I loved this book; I read it while Will was in hospital and often accidentally woke him up by laughing out loud! It honestly is a brilliant read.
The story centres around centenarian, Alan Karlsson, who instead of going to his birthday party, organised by his care home, he climbs out the window.
The story really gets going when for some reason as he sits in the bus station, he decides to steal a suitcase. It turns out it is full of money belonging to a criminal gang. This gang end up chasing him all over Sweden. Along his journey, Alan aquires an unlikely following (including an elephant).
Through flashbacks you quickly realise this exciting journey is not the first in Alan's long life. You discover he has friends in high places including world leaders and dictators. He, somehow, throughout his life found himself playing key roles in some pretty significant events of the twentieth century.
What I love most about this book is the main character is such an unlikely lead role. However, as you read on you realise he is the perfect casting for the lead.
If you read/have read this book let me know what you think!
