Heading out and about with a baby can be daunting and cause a lot of anxiety. But for me, not going out isn’t the option, Reggie and I do not cope well being inside all day, it makes us both unbearable! I think the best thing to always do is arm yourself, so being out and about with a baby is as simple and as lovely as possible.
So I wanted to share my favourite thing I pack in our changing bag at the moment. I was recently out with some friends and one of those lovely mummas had this toy and I instantly thought it was fantastic.
Now here is my mum confession, I rarely (never) used to pack any toys for Reggie when we went out because when he was smaller he was easily entertained by anything - napkins, leaves, scarves, twigs, forks, knives (just kidding) (Ok not kidding, but it only happened once!)
So anyway, my friend got out this great toy. I thought it was brilliant for two reasons. Firstly, it was so compact and secondly there are so many ways you can use and play with it.
I’m all about simplicity (if you hadn’t guessed!) so something which has multiple uses and doesn’t take up precious space is right up my street.
With a little imagination this toy can be so many things. We have stacked them (and Reggie pushed it over, endless fun!) we have hit them together to make loud noises! If you stack them altogether you can use it as a telescope but the best way we have found to use them is down the beach, as spades and sandcastles.
The amazing thing about it is it was £3.99 in Home Bargains! I think this would make a lovely gift as well for a new mum.
My last tip and one I think is most important is don’t play with your ‘out and about’ toy at home. This means your baby won’t become bored of the toy and it will be a special treat to play with it while you are out and about.
So this is our favourite ‘out and about’ toy right now (I’m sure this will change very soon) is there better out there?! Do you like our favourite? I would love to know! Find me on Instagram! @solovelysosimple
